It wasn't that long ago when Gerald was my closest friend for over 10 years. I was recently at the local race track asking about my old friend when I came across this shocking message. Gerald was the real deal! My family have so many wonderful memories of the times we had, racing, working all hours on bikes, camping, fishing in Canada to name just a few. To this day his old number plate 54 remains on the wall in my garage. Gerald or Bugsy as I use to call him, loved life and he had a heart of gold. He struggled with his disability, his stable job at Ft. Lewis went away, he lost about everything he owed during the Nisqually floods not once but twice. But Gerald was a fighter and no matter what life through at him, it never stopped him from doing what he loved so much in life. He may now be at peace and we are truly blessed to have so many wonderful memories to look back upon. However the news of his passing is still painful to accept.

If anyone deserved to have Frank Sinatra's song, "I Did it My Way" as their life's theme song, it was Gerald. From Dirt Bike Racing, to being a mechanic, to running his courier business, "He did it his way!"
Gerald's passing is a huge loss. For Gerald, I strongly suspect it is a huge relief. That fact doesn't lessen the pain.
