Obituary of Sanford Miller

Sanford “Sam” Miller November 12, 1942 – August 30, 2009 Sanford “Sam” Miller, husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on August 30th 2009 at his home in Olympia, WA surrounded by his loving family. He was born in La Grange, IN. Son of the late Claude Miller and Eula Mishler Miller. He is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Lenore; his sons John and Peter; daughter-in-law Alisha; grandchildren, Jackson and Addison; and his brother John. Sam grew up in Indiana and always loved the open landscape of the Hoosier State. He also loved the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and spent countless afternoons driving the back roads. Sam spent four years in the Air Force at Fairchild Air Base in Spokane, followed by 10 years in the trucking industry. In 1977 he earned his Accounting degree at North Seattle Community College and dedicated 30 years of public service to Washington State, mostly with ESD where he retired on 12/1/07. He was passionate about football, especially, when his sons were on the field playing for the Oly Bears. The Pittsburgh Steelers were Sam’s favorite team and he passed his love of the Steelers onto his sons. Breakfast was his preferred meal of the day and he enjoyed sharing this time with anyone willing to eat with him. He appreciated cars and was a fan of Nascar and The Indy 500. Sam’s greatest love is family and we all cherish the special relationships each of us shared with him. We will all miss his smile, sense of humor, and most of all, his kind and loving spirit. We love and miss you “Old Man”. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tumwater Masonic Center, 455 North St. SE at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 followed by a reception.
