Obituary of Jewel Marie Miller

Jewel Marie "Judy" Miller passed over on July 22, 2008 surrounded by loving family at her home in Olympia, Washington after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. She was the youngest daughter born to Joseph and Edith Walker in Tillamook, Oregon on March 21, 1932. She spent many of her growing up years in Grants Pass, Oregon and graduated from Grants Pass High School. She attended Northwestern College in St. Paul Minnesota where she met and later married David R. Brush. They were married for forty five years and lived in the same family home for most of those years in Bellevue, Washington where they raised their daughter, Ruth Jeannette Brush. Jewel married Fred Miller July 5, 2000. Although their marriage was short due to Fred’s illness and death in 2005, they put a life time of love and devotion into those few years, they were precious and rich years for Jewel for many reasons especially because she became “Mom” to all seven Miller kids. Fred and Jewel made their home in Olympia, Washington. Jewel cared for Fred for two of their five years and will quickly say she would do it all over again in a heart beat for that wonderful man. Jewel was primarily known as a homemaker, always working side by side each of her husbands on many projects, and as a willing servant of the Lord. Among her many accomplishments she was Founder and Director of a Children’s Preschool in Bellevue for ten years, a professional model, an author, a composer of songs, two of which have copy rights, an artist, a guest speaker at Christian Camps, Vacation Bible School director, she also had a flower arranging business with her good friend and neighbor, Irene Lester. She was humble and never talked about her accomplishments, always interested in the other person. She touched every life she came in contact with in a profound way. She is know for her deep faith in Jesus Christ, her generosity, her sense of humor, her acceptance of all with whom she came in contact, her loving kindness, her grace, her hospitality, her love of all God’s creation, the beach, flowers, birds, His Word. She enjoyed traveling, seeing and experiencing new places especially sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by both husbands, David in 1997, Fred in 2005, her daughter, Ruth in 1997, her grandson, Isaiah Nash in 2002. She is survived by her granddaughter, Kasandra Kramer, her great grandchildren, Tatyana Nash and Ryker Milbrandt, her brother, Frank Walker, her sister, JoeAnn Bjerke, many nieces and nephews, and many that lovingly called her “Mom” including all of Fred’s seven children and several step-grandchildren.
