Obituary of Fred J. Miller

Fred J. Miller, 80, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 13, 2005. He was born in Pueblo, Colorado on September 2, 1925 to Fred J. Miller, Sr. and Lorene Richardson (Miller). Fred completed high school and went on to obtain college credits in filmmaking. He served in the United States Navy as a corpsman and a surgeon’s assistant during WWII. Fred began his career as an industry film motion picture photographer in California for Lockheed. Later, he moved his family to Oregon State to work making industrial films for Oregon State Parks. He produced many films for major corporations such as Grandma’s Cookies, Gerber Blades, as well as training films for many companies. His children were often featured in commercials when they were young. When they made their move to Washington State, Fred continued his film career for the Boeing Company, eventually forming his own company in Bellevue called Industry Film Productions. Fred married Marjorie Ann Donovan in Los Angeles, California on June 25, 1950. They raised seven children in San Diego, CA., moved to Lake Oswego, OR., before settling in Washington State. Fred and Marjorie were together nearly 50 years before her passing on April 14, 1999. Fred married Jewel Marie (Walker) Brush in Bellevue, Washington on July 5, 2000. They settled in Olympia, Washington. Jewel, (known as Judy to those closest to her), has been an extraordinary blessing in not only Fred’s life, but to the entire family who will forever consider her “mom” and “grandma”. Together they were members of Faith Assembly of Lacey. Fred’s hobbies included camping, carpentry, welding and coaching his children’s little league baseball teams. Fred was a kind and generous man, always the busy carpenter, building or fixing something and ready to lend a helping hand anytime, to those who needed it. Neighbors commented "he was the nicest man in the neighborhood", always stopping what he was doing if he saw them, to say “hi” and to ask how they were doing. Fred will be missed by all who knew him. He was known for his amazing ability to design and build his own creations. One of his children’s fondest memories is the converted camping van with everything built into it, including the kitchen sink. He passed his remarkable gift for creative solutions to everyday challenges onto his children, who continue in his artistic footsteps. Perhaps the most cherished quality in Fred was his deep commitment to family and his relationship with the Lord. He modeled to his children loving parenting qualities. This devotion to family is evident in four generations (and counting). Colossians 3:12-14, epitomizes who Fred was; “Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive any grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity”. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Miller; son, Ron J. Miller; daughter and son-in law, CherylAnn and Lowell Morris; son, Gary D. Miller; son and daughter-in law, Doug R. and Jennifer Miller; daughter, Kathleen J. Miller; daughter and son-in law, Deborah K. and Russell Wolf; son and daughter in-law, Daniel L. and Cindy Miller; his grandchildren; Trevor, Ryland, Meghan, Derek, Cameron, Dalila, Alicia, Maurice, Brandon and Annie; and five great-grandchildren; Demaure’a, Sterling, Uriah, Jahad and Ryland Jr. We would like to thank all of our wonderful friends and family for their kind thoughts and prayers.
