Obituary of Niles Ivan Meyers

Niles Ivan Meyers Niles Ivan Meyers passed away peacefully on May 11, 2012 in Olympia, Washington. He was born to Sara and Niles M. Meyers on March 7, 1930 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1948 from Enola High School in Enola, Pennsylvania. He married his high school sweetheart, Jean L. Jones, on August 29, 1947 in Weldon, North Carolina. Niles passed away two months after Jean, who died March 15, 2012. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1974. He served in Korea and completed three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. After leaving the army, he worked for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, retiring in 1995 after 20 years of service. A man of impeccable honesty and integrity, he was a role model for all who knew him, but especially his grandson, brother and nephews. Niles (nicknamed Snail) was a kind, loving, and generous man. The most extraordinary husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he loved his family dearly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, clock repair, and anything mechanical. He is survived by two daughters, Cindi Kirchmeier and Jan Meyers of Olympia; one grandson, Brian Palmer and wife Jamie; two great-granddaughters, Emeory and Trinity; sister, Joanne (Meyers) Sadler of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; brother, Donald H. Meyers of Ft. Myers, Florida; and nephews, Chad and Jeffrey Meyers. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2012 at South Sound Manor, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, Washington. Burial will follow at Mills & Mills Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, Washington. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Morningside, P. O.
