Gene Meason

Obituary of Gene Arlen Meason

No Visitation is planned Gene Arlen Meason Gene, a long time resident of the Olympia/Lacey area, lost his battle with cancer on May 23, 2009. He was born July 21, 1932 in Gainsville, Texas to Vernon and Cordie (Hatcher) Meason. Gene attended school in Gainsville, Texas and Magnum, Oklahoma. Being an adventurous young lad, at 14 Gene asked his father for bus fare so he could go join the Army. His father gave him 50 cents, which he probably knew was not enough. However, when Gene and his friends pooled their money, they indeed had enough to accomplish their goal. Due to his age, Pvt. Meason was honorably discharged at the age of 15. Gene returned home and finished his high school requirements. When he was of age, Gene again signed on for duty with the Army Air Force in 1950 and served his country for the next 10 years. During that time, Gene met and married Donna Mae Weidert on September 1, 1951 in Olympia, WA. Donna passed away in April of 1984. Gene later met Arlene Albert and they were married in August of 1987, also in Olympia. Gene worked for the State of Washington as a Printer and the Association of Washington Business. When not working, he enjoyed filling the hours with woodworking – he constructed a multitude of birdhouses over the years, boating, fishing and hunting. Gene is survived by his wife Arlene Albert-Meason; his son Robert Meason; his daughter Cynthia Meason; his step-children, Cathy Graf (Larry), Susan Lapham, and Donald Meyer (Tammy); five grandchildren; and a brother James Meason. He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna; his daughter Kathy Meason; a brother Kenneth Meason; and his parents Vernon Otis and Cordie Marie (Hatcher) Meason. Per his wishes, there will be no services. At a later date Gene will be inurned at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
