Obituary of Michael McKinzie

Michael Ross McKinzie, a resident of Olympia for 16 years, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital on Monday, January 2, 2006. He was born April 24, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas to Osburn and Irma McKinzie. He graduated from Lafayette High in Lafayette, LA in 1963. Following high school he served in the United State Marines as an A4 Pilot. Mike attended USC and later earned many computer certifications. Mike was a Systems and Applications Specialist from July 1989 to present for Lott Alliance. Prior to this position he worked on computer systems on floating oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and in the United Kingdom. On May 1, 1992 he married Cindy Lou Petersen in Olympia. Mike enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, music, computers, woodworking, movies, reading, astronomy, science, fast cars, art and antiques. His interests were varied and numerous. He had a love of learning and of teaching. Mike is lovingly remembered by his wife Cindy of Olympia; daughters, Joanna Simon of Olympia, Lisa Clement of Houston and Sasha McKinzie of the Netherlands; a son, Wyatt of the United Kingdom; sister; Wanda (Larry) McDonald of Las Cruces, NM; nieces, Kimberly Beaman; Courtney and Kristina Wright; grandchildren, Jonathan Alan Michael Vollmer of Olympia, Ashley, Jonathan and Kelly Clement of Houston, Yelena McKinzie of the Netherlands and Ellen and Oliver McKinzie of the United Kingdom. A gathering for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Masonic Center, 521 North St. SE, Tumwater. A scholarship will be established in Mike’s name.
