Obituary of Virginia McKay

Virginia C. McKay Virginia C. McKay passed peacefully on August 10th, 2009, with her husband of 54 years at her side. She was born in Seattle on July 16th, 1934, the younger of two daughters to Milton and Florence Endslow. Virginia graduated from Franklin High school in 1952. She continued her education at the University of Washington, where she met and married Dr. Glenn B McKay. She was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority both on campus and in later years. She graduated from Central Washington College with a degree in early childhood education in 1958. Virginia was a long time resident of Lacey, moving here with her husband and young children in 1963. She was a great cook, excellent seamstress and avid clam digger. She was active for many years in the Dental Wives Association of Thurston/Mason Counties. She enjoyed spending time near the water at her home on Hicks Lake in Lacey as well as at their place in Ocean Shores. She often hosted gatherings for the local chapter of Gyro International. She was known for her Caesar salad, wicked clam chowder, Swiss steak, and breakfast casserole – delicacies that she served to friends and family. She will be remembered very fondly for her ability to make any visitor feel like family as soon as they entered her home. She is preceded in passing by her parents, her sister Elizabeth (and husband John) Cross, and one niece, Nancy. She is survived by her husband Glenn, daughters Linda (and husband Gary) Clover of Olympia, Terri (and husband Steve) Vernon of New York City, Cheryl McKay of Lacey, nieces Gail (and husband Frank) Welch of Half Moon Bay, Vicki Gilleg of Lacey and two grand nephews Justin and Christopher Gilleg. Our family would like to express their sincere thanks to the caring people at Mother Joseph’s, and to George and the staff at Medical Center Pharmacy in Olympia. Virginia asked that no funeral services be held. To leave a condolence for the family, click on View Guestbook below:
