Obituary of J. Vernon McHugh

James Vernon McHugh James Vernon McHugh, 94, husband of Marion Kingsnorth McHugh for 53 years now deceased, died in Lacey WA at Panorama City Nursing Facility on September 2, 2009. He was born Washington DC on 2 January 1915 to Martin William McHugh and Persis Louise McHugh. He is survived by nine nieces and nephews. Vernon graduated Wilmington Delaware High School in 1932; Swarthmore College with a BA in1936, Swarthmore, PA and Dartmouth College with a MBA in 1938, Hanover NH. During WWII he served as a Major in Army from 1942 – 1946, at Camp Upton, NJ and Ft. Bragg, NC. He worked for Dupont Chemical Company from 1938 – 1942; Chevron Corporation from1946 – 1969 in management in Central America; and the US Postal Service in Texas from 1978 – 1983 as a rural mail carrier. Vernon and Marion were avid golfers and enjoyed traveling and playing golf at many varied courses across the US and abroad. He retired to Panorama City, in Lacey WA in the early 1990s after Marion died, where he participated in many activities, helped with the campus taxi service and fundraisers. He was an advocate for animals especially dogs. He enjoyed taking daily walks with his dock hound, Snoopy, who was his faithful and constant companion for the last 14 years until the end. Vernon has requested no funeral or memorial services as that he be cremated and his ashes scattered.
