Obituary of James Edward McClanahan

James Edward McClanahan James “Jim” Edward McClanahan (75) passed away on April 3, 2007 at his home in Olympia, Washington with his wife and family by his side. Through gifts of wit and wisdom, he embraced all of life with a personal faith in his Lord and Savior as well as a deep love and devotion to his family. Jim was born January 4, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri and lived his life in the Kansas City area, Orange County California, then moving to Olympia, Washington in 2004. He was preceded in death by father, Tobe McClanhan, also of Kansas City, Missouri, who lived from 1889 to 1960. Jim McClanahan served in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller in Olathe, Kansas, Bremerton, Washington, and Whidbey Island, Washington. As a licensed Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor for over forty five years, Jim worked as an engineering technical consultant and business owner to engineering firms in both Missouri and California. Jim was currently a member of Lacey Presbyterian Church in Lacey, Washington. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl McClanahan, also originally from the Kansas City area. Other surviving family members include three sons, four daughters, sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandson: Daughter, Erin Blunt and husband Larry of Olympia, Washington Son, Autie McClanahan and wife Sandi of Lakewood, Washington Daughter, Theresa McClanahan of Tacoma, Washington Daughter, Susan Larson and husband Dale of Topeka, Kansas Son, Alan McClanahan and wife Lisa of Olathe, Kansas Daughter, Shawn Heitz of Hemingford, Nebraska Son, Brendan Lilley and wife Theresa of York, Nebraska A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood, Washington, where his wife is currently serving as Interim Associate Pastor. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Jim’s compassion for the poor and homeless, the family requests that donations by made in memoriam to FISH Food Bank c/o Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499 or to the Neighborhood Free Medical Clinic c/o Lacey Presbyterian Church, 3045 Carpenter Rd.
