Etta Mayes

Obituary of Etta J. Mayes

Etta Mayes Etta was born on December 4, 1923 to Otis L. and Allie Bean Patterson of Kelso, Washington. Her family moved to Olympia when Etta was an infant, and she attended Olympia schools, graduating from Olympia High School in 1942. In 1944 she married Gilbert LeRoy Jamison. They had a son and a daughter, and then divorced in 1949. On June 18, 1955, Etta married Quentin C. “Mike” Mayes. They had many wonderful years together until Mike lost his battle with cancer in March of 1987. Etta liked to travel, especially to Reno or Las Vegas. She loved animals, although in later years they were more of the ceramic or stuffed variety. She took up bridge after Mike passed and enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her friends from Colonial Estates, where she and Mike had moved only a few years before his death. She loved watching her “soaps”, playing pull-tabs, and drinking a good martini. After spending the day saying good-bye to her family, Etta crossed over in the early morning hours of August 19, 2008. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Etta was predeceased by her husband Mike, her sister Helen Glenn, her brother Roy Phillips, and her son Larry Jamison who died in infancy. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Richard “Rick”) Hochhalter; her granddaughters Erika Cammarano and Wendi (Robert) Fernandez; her great grandchildren Travis, Rylee, Alana, River, Dakota, and Ryder; and much extended family. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Odd Fellows Memorial Park, 3802 Cleveland Ave. SE, Tumwater. Flowers are lovely, but if you’d prefer, please donate to lung cancer research. Please leave condolences by clicking "View Guestbook" below.
