Obituary of Larry Steven Martinec

Friends may pay their respects at the Church prior to the service beginning at noon LARRY S. MARTINEC Larry S. Martinec, 76, a 40 year resident of Arlington, died February 2, 2008. Larry was born January 15, 1932 in Lewistown, Montana to Steven and Christina (Border) Martinec. He was raised and schooled in Lewistown. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Montana and his Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from Montana State University. On February 17, 1955 in St. Ignatius, Montana he married the former Barbara J. Dinger who survives. Larry taught school in Belgrade and St. Ignatius, Montana for 12 years before moving to Arlington. He was a guidance counselor for the Granite Falls School District for a while before returning to teaching at Granite Falls High School. He taught there for 30 years, retiring in 1997. Larry was loved and revered by his colleagues and students. Larry was recently noted by the school district for his forty years of service as time keeper. He enjoyed music and played several instruments and could play anything put in front of him. While in college For 30 years, he played his trumpet at the annual Memorial Day ceremonies for the local V. F. W. Larry also enjoyed writing and was a member of the Creative Writing Group at the Stillaquamish Senior Center. He was an avid classic model car collector. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Timothy L. Martinec, Boston, Massachusetts and Steven L. Martinec, Arlington; one brother, James Martinec, Boston, Massachusetts; one sister, Twyla Reitan, Marysville; also ten grandchildren.
