Obituary of William Mapp

. William “Don” Mapp Don Mapp passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005, while on his annual cross-country RV trek, in Gulfport, Mississippi. A 20-year resident of Lacey, Washington, Don Mapp was born June 8, 1938, in Nassawaddox, Virginia. He moved to Washington in 1984 from California, where he had retired from the United States Air Force. Don also retired in 2000 from the State of Washington, Department of Licensing. While in the Air Force, Don served in Morocco, Texas, California, and Vietnam. He lived for several years on Howard Air Force Base in the Panama Canal Zone, where he was a co-founder of the Road Knights Motorcycle Club. On returning from Panama, Don served at Mather Air Force Base in California, where he was co-founder of the Mather Gold Dusters Motorcycle Club. During his 50 years of riding motorcycles, Don served as a safety instructor and Chief Instructor, and worked with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the State of Washington establishing and maintaining motorcycle safety programs. He was recognized many times for his contributions to motorcycle safety. Since Don’s retirement from the State of Washington, Don became an avid RV’er, traveling thousands of miles each year and camping out all over the country. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Missy, and is survived by three sons, Bill, James, and Pat; two brothers, Barry and Kent; and three grandchildren, Athena, Benjamin, and Alise.
