Obituary of Edward Paul Manary

Devoted fisherman and father, Edward “Ed” Paul Manary, 70, sailed away on his final fishing excursion December 9, 2009. He was born May 23, 1939 to Stanley and June Manary in Vancouver, Washington, the eldest of four children. He attended Oregon State University, eventually graduating from Seattle University with a degree in Commerce and Finance in 1963. From 1962-1976, he worked for Pemco Insurance as a sales agent. Ed served as the Executive Director for the Charter Boats of Washington from 1976-1980, worked with the House of Representatives from 1980-1981 as a research analyst, served as Assistant Director in the salmon program with the Department of Fisheries from 1981-1998, and as Project Manager with Washington Conservation Commission from 1998 until his retirement in 2004. From 1975-1976, he served as president of the Northwest Steelhead Association of Trout Unlimited. He was an avid fisherman, partaking in his favorite hobby as often as possible. He especially enjoyed lake fishing for kokanee. He would often smoke and or can the fish to share with his family and friends. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Carole, his faithful Chinese pug, P.J., two sisters, Betty (Bill) Arnold of Kirkland, Donna (Scott) Gallup of Olympia, daughter, Andrea (Dan) Bieber of Enumclaw, son, Douglas (Sunny) Manary of Hoodsport, two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
