Obituary of Edward Robert Malinowski

No visitation Edward R. Malinowski Edward Robert Malinowski was born on August 24, 1920 in Aberdeen, Washington to Edward Paul Malinowski and Frances (Kozlowski) Malinowski, the oldest of their six children. He was baptized at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Seattle. He died on Saturday, June 2, 2007 surrounded by family and in the comfort of hospice care and the wonderful staff at the Sequoia Assisted Living Community. Ed graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1938 and joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in which he served from 1938 to 1945. He was in the Pacific Theatre in WWII aboard the USS U.S. Grant. On November 14, 1953 he married Alice L. Johnson in Aberdeen. They had two children, Sandra Anne and Robert Edward. He was a logger all his working life. He worked for the family logging business starting in his teens and also for other logging outfits until he joined Weyerhaeuser Company in 1959 where he worked until his retirement in 1980. He began as a foreman and ended his career as a logging manager. During his time with Weyerhaeuser he lived in Raymond, WA (1959-1975), Kelso, WA (1975-1976), and a logging camp in Indonesia (1976-1980). He and Alice retired in Olympia, WA in 1980. Ed belonged to the American Legion, as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Elks in earlier years, and was a longtime member of the Raymond School Board. He took up golf when he was 50 and played until he was 85. He also enjoyed billiards. He and Alice traveled extensively during their Indonesia years, visiting Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, and New Zealand. Edward is survived by his wife Alice, his son Rob Malinowski and daughter-in-law Carolyn Lathrop (Seattle, WA), his daughter Sandi Malinowski and son-in-law Bruce Hooker (Olympia, WA), and three grandchildren: Alex Malinowski, Andrew Hooker, and Maggie Hooker. He is also survived by his brother John Malinowski (Aberdeen, WA) and sisters Betty Miller (Auburn, WA), Mary Michel (Forest Grove, OR), and Anne Graves (Bainbridge Island, WA). He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Malinowski. There will be a gathering in honor of Ed's memory on Friday, July 13 at 11:00 AM in the home of his daughter Sandi at 2917 28th Avenue SE in Olympia.
