Obituary of Laurence Andrew Maki

10:00 a.m. prior to the service Wednesday, July 11, 2007 Laurence Andrew Maki Laurence Andrew Maki, 79, of Lacey, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at his home. Mr. Maki was born July 12, 1927 in Pelkie, Michigan to Louis G. and Lillian (Wuolle) Maki. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan and joined the United States Army in 1945. Larry served 22 years in the Army retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. On February 19, 1955 in Germany, he married the former Irmgard Hillenbrand, who survives. After retiring from the Army, he worked an additional 20 years for the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Sergeant on McNeil Island. He and his wife moved from Pierce County four years ago to Lacey. Larry enjoyed hunting, playing scrabble, crossword puzzles and poker. He was proud of his military and government service. He was actively involved as a member of the American Legion for many years and was elected Post Commander for the Gig Harbor Post. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Thomas Maki of Lakewood, Robert Maki, Olympia; one daughter, Nancy Maki, Des Moines, Washington; also four grandchildren. Larry will be remembered for his quiet nature, his uncompromising integrity and his unwavering patriotism. Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Maki’s name to the American Legion Post of your choice. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the new Masonic Center, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, WA 98501. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. A reception will be held following the service at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1601 North St. SE, Olympian. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
