Obituary of Viola Mackey

Viola Ida Mackey 1928-2010 Viola Ida Mackey was born January 8, 1928, and went to be with her Lord on January 18, 2010, after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Viola was born in Condon, OR to Clarence Albert & Sadie Ida Macomber. Viola was a small town girl and grew up living in Condon, Spray, Heppner, & Arlington, OR. She graduated from high school in Spray, OR and was Valedictorian of her senior class, even with skipping a grade in high school. Viola was an athlete, tap dancer, and a switchboard operator. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Melvin Dale Mackey in Arlington, OR. They were a military family with four children traveling all over our country. Viola was a wonderful Army wife and mother. She loved to travel, do embroidery, crocheting, sewing, baking, playing the piano, singing in the choir, playing cards, and reading. Viola was also an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball and football. She devoted her life to her family and her church. She was an avid Prayer Warrior, praying for all of us. Viola resided with her husband, in Lewis County for the last 29 years. She was an active member of the Adna Evangelical Church and was a Sunday School Teacher & Superintendent, was President of the Chehalis Lion's Club, and worked with the Lewis County Senior Center. Viola was a beautiful example of a Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by us all, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior. Viola is survived by her loving husband, Melvin, four children, Sheila (Keith) Thuline, Brian (Dawn) Mackey, Bruce (Jenny) Mackey, Sheri (Richard) Sipp. Nine grandchildren, Trindi, Daryl, Dale, Michelle, Sarah, Connor, Mitchell, Richard, Jr, Andrew, and ten great-grandchildren, a brother, Lee Macomber, her two cats, Boots and Midnight, and many friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Sadie Macomber, a brother, Dale Macomber, daughter, Gloria Mackey, and grandson, Eric Thuline. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Adna Evangelical Church, Local Chapter of American Heart Association, Veteran's Memorial Museum in Chehalis.
