Jerry A. Lynch Jerry A. Lynch, lifetime resident of Olympia, Washington passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the age of 78 after a long illness. He was born at Old St. Peters Hospital in Olympia on September 18, 1933 to Harry and Frances Lynch. Jerry graduated from Olympia High School in 1951, then attended Centralia and St. Martin’s College before joining the air force. In 1959, he married Shirley “Shug” Tornquist from McCleary and soon after joined the Olympia Fire Department. Jerry and Shug had three children and made their home in Olympia. Jerry was very proud to be a firefighter and considered all of his friends from the fire department as family. The firefighter family was always an important part of his life and he treasured those relationships. Jerry was also a member of the Olympia VFW. Jerry was known as a jack of all trades and there was nothing he couldn’t make or fix. He loved the sea and spent some time commercial fishing. He also loved classic cars, trucks, boats and airplanes. He enjoyed hunting and going on camping trips with his family. He especially enjoyed taking a drive to Mt. Rainier or to the beach for the day. Jerry will always be remembered as someone who would help anyone with anything. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends. Jerry’s family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses that have taken such good care of Jerry. Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shug; a daughter, Sandy (Tom) Jarvis; two sons, Steve Lynch, Bill (Linda) Lynch and daughter-in-law Carole Lynch; his six grandchildren, Jessica (Fred) Sturza, Kayla Hickman, Heidi Lynch, Dylan Lynch, Justine (Jarrett) Johnson and Jason Lynch; two great grandsons, (twins), Austin and Logan Sturza. He is also survived by Joe and Gail Tornquist, Mary Carol and Dick Antilla, along with many nieces and nephews; and his cousins, Mary Zeigler and Georgia McPhee.
