Obituary of O. Gene Luna

O. Gene Luna, resident of Centralia, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at the age of 64. He was born September 5, 1941, in Sparta, Tennessee, to Rube and Rubie (Johnson) Luna. He was employed by the Trans Alta Mining Company for over 29 years. He spent three years in the Army from 1966-1969, which included a tour of duty in Korea. It was in Korea that he developed a love and appreciation for Korean food. He was an avid deer and elk hunter who loved camping and hunting in the Naneum Mountains of eastern Washington. He loved salmon and trout fishing, but in the last few years he could not get enough of sturgeon fishing, and he looked forward every August to his two-week fishing time in Ilwaco with his wife and family. To his many friends and family he was known as “Jim”, “Geno” or “Hillbilly.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Rube and Rubie Luna, infant daughter Myrna Jean Luna, and infant granddaughter Kari Nicole Brewington. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dawn J. Luna; three sons and one stepson: Eric (Melissa) Luna of Sparta, Tennessee; Clayton M. Luna of Centralia; Carlton M. (Rose) Luna of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Aaron (Cheri) Conine of Kelso; two daughters and one stepdaughter: Angelia Rodocker of Centralia; Donna Brewington of Sparta, Tennessee; and Monica Conine of Centralia; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob (Patricia) Luna of Sparta, Tennessee; six aunts, three uncles, many cousins, and a host of good friends. His family wishes to express thanks and remembrances to his many friends who faithfully visited and telephoned and to Providence Sound Homecare and Hospice for providing great care and support. A Memorial Service will be held September 21, 2005, at 11:30 A.M. at the Centralia Eagles, 2308 North Pearl, Centralia, WA. Immediately to follow a potluck reception.
