Obituary of Ruth Montie Leonard

Ruth Montie Leonard “Babe” December 10, 1945 ~ August 5, 2007 Ruth passed away at home after a courageous 8 month battle with cancer on Sunday, August 5, 2007. Ruth was born December 10, 1945 in Trail, Oregon to Ruth Agnes and Louis Miller. Ruth has one sister, Margaret Bush of Napa, California; two brothers, Les Coffman of La Glace, Alberta and Bernie Puetz of Spokane, Washington. Ruth moved to Prince George, British Columbia in 1965 where she started her family and had her son Bill Wilson “Magoo” and in late 1966 Ruth moved to Vernon, British Columbia and had her daughter Tammy Mead (Wilson). Ruth also had what she would refer to as her “blended” children being Troy Wilson, Corey Sterling, Vince, Todd, Big Tammy, Kelly King, and Erin Leonard. Ruth has four grandchildren whom she loved to spend as much time as possible with, Jessica and Dillon Mead as well as Darion and Gage Wilson. She was involved in their lives in every way including their birth, taking them to school, swimming lessons, first broken arms, and on and on……. Ruth worked hard all the years of her life and each job and new place brought many new family and friends into her life along the way. Her many jobs included bar manager in Falkland, British Columbia; road construction foreman in Spirit River, Alberta; a store manager for 7-Eleven in Quesnel and Dawson Creek, British Columbia and then transferred to manage a store in Spanaway, Washington. Lastly Ruth worked as an Ace Cash Express manager in Lacey, Washington. Ruth looked many years for her one true love.…She found him in 1999. She married Leo Leonard on May 25, 2000 in Reno, Nevada. Finally having found love she made the difficult decision to leave her Canadian family and move back to the United States. Ruth and Leo bought a home in Yelm, Washington and also purchased a vacation spot at Ocean Shores. Together they ventured to many places and hiked many trails, and also became members of the Church of Living Water in Olympia, Washington. Ruth’s favorite spot was always the ocean. I’m sure some of her favorite memories (and mine/ours) will be last August when everyone went to their ocean home and spent a week there playing on the beach, flying kites, riding scooters, sitting by the fire, swimming in the pool with the grandkids and laughing at each others silliness. As she was always concerned for everyone else, never liked to stand out in the crowd, and has family and friends everywhere the family decided not to hold a service, but instead are requesting you to share your condolences and memories on-line. Ruth never liked to see the beauty of cut flowers dies so instead we are requesting that you plant something in her memory in your own back yard. If you would like to make a donation to a charity of you choice, Ruth always liked to help at the church with the ministry food bank.
