Obituary of Avis Winona Lawrence

Avis Winona Culp was born in Williston, North Dakota on June 22, 1921 and passed away on May 22, 2008 in Tacoma, Washington.Avis left Williston on her 16th birthday in 1937 to move with her family to Olympia, Washington. The family home was in the Butler's Cove area. Avis graduated from Olympia High School in 1941. She married Walt Lawrence right after graduation. One year later a daughter was born and two years after that the family added a son. In the 1950's Avis worked at the old St. Peter Hospital as a nurses aide. She moved to Tacoma in the early 1960's and lived there until her death. Avis attended Clover Park Vocational School where she received her LPN schooling. She worked at Western State Hospital until her retirement. She liked to garden, go camping, feed the birds in her backyard, and read and do crosswords. Avis is survived by her daughter Pat, daughter-in-law Glenda, grandson Jim Gray, brothers Lavern "Bum" and Bill Culp, great-granddaughters Alina and Jessica, and many nieces and nephews. Also many church friends. She was preceded in death by her son Tom, granddaughter Diana and brothers Lavon "Al" and Mervin "Brick". Avis will be missed by one and all.
