Obituary of Marian Kydland

none Marian Kydland, of Olympia, Washington, passed away July 24, 2004 in her home surrounded by her loved ones.Marian was born to William J. and Jewell Ivall on May 17, 1919 in Hoquiam, Washington. Marian was a graduate of Hoquiam High School in 1937. She married Wallace Kydland on November 9, 1940 in Kentucky. He was a career soldier, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, and they lived in several states, plus 2 years in Turkey. Marian worked at the State of Washington Department of Retirement in Olympia, and retired in 1979. Marian was very active in her garden clubs. She joined the Friendly Flower Garden Club in 1962 and held several offices including president. She was also active in the Black Hills District and Black Hills Flower Designers, and served on the State Board. She participated in flower shows and judging flowers at fairs across the state. When she wasn't doing flowers, she was picking berries and making the best wild blackberry pies. Marian enjoyed playing bridge, and belonged to two bridge clubs that met weekly. She enjoyed spending time camping and traveling in the motor home with family and friends and trips to the beach. Marian is leaving behind another best friend, Millie, her dog that she spent several hours a day with. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Kydland, in 1998. She is survived by her sons, Ken Kydland, and his spouse, Debbie, of Olympia, and Gary Kydland, and his spouse, Stephanie, of Port Angeles; daughter, Debi Kydland, of Olympia; grandchildren, Julie (Kydland) Brunson, and her spouse, Jason Brunson, Shelley Kydland, Jennifer Kydland, of Olympia, Kristina Kydland-McGannon, and her spouse, Edward; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Laney McGannon. Marian's great-grandkids have been a great inspiration and new ray of light to her. She was looking forward to seeing the next great-granddaughter from Julie and Jason, due in October. A memorial will be held at Masonic Center, 521 North Street S.E., Tumwater, on Friday, July 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow.
