I'm so sorry for your loss. Maxine preceded me as president of the State League. We went to two national League meetings together, and we had a great time. She was a great leader and mentor. One thing we had in common was our birthdays. She was born exactly 10 years ahead of me. She will be missed.

I was sorry to be away for Maxine's service. She was a friend from the Thurston County League, and a great person to work with during our active League days. We also got together at regular Sunday brunches for a number of years. One thing I remember her saying during a League discussion is "You can't put democracy on automatic pilot." So true! And Maxine practiced that belief.

Sorry to see your Mom has passed. Now I know where you got that heavy brow and thick eyebrows! Always tough to see our parents leave us, no matter what age. Sounds like she enjoyed herself living on the Sound surrounded by you kids and her home and lifestyle.
Swede.

Maxine was president of the League of Women Voters of Thurston County when I moved to Olympia in 1967. I admired Maxine for her abilities as a leader. She later went on to be a member of the board of the League of Women Voters of Washington. She was a role model for me.
