Obituary of Alfred Ross Kraig

Alfred Ross Kraig Alfred Ross Kraig passed away on July 26, 2009 in Olympia surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Ross, the only son of Elsbeth Gutsch, was born in Detroit on February 10, 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Marie Heaton in May 1986. Ross and Shirley were married in Bellingham, WA on May 28, 1955. Ross graduated from both the University of California Los Angeles and the University of Southern California. He was a public librarian in the Washington cities of Bellingham, Renton, Port Angeles, and Olympia, as well as Bay City, MI, and San Mateo, CA before retiring with Shirley to Samish Island, WA. Ross is survived by his daughter Beth and partner Suzanne, son Eric and daughter-in-law Laura, son Bruce, daughter Amy; granddaughters Gretchen, Frieda, Ingrid and Sarah, and grandson Eli. In his younger years, Ross was active in the Los Angeles Science Fiction Society (with writers Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein). Later, he was involved with the Kiwanis in Olympia and Bay City, and was president of the Washington Library Association in 1966. Ross enjoyed camping and sailing and was an avid reader his entire life. Ross did not want any formal services.
