To my sister Lauren, brother-in-law Henry and nephew Jeremy,
You were the best Mom, Dad, and little brother. Emma was Aunt Ann's sweet little niece. She won my heart and I loved her. I could be a quiet little girl too though I never faced challenges like hers.
Emma will be Aunt Ann's little sweetheart forever.
Love, Ann

Lauren, Henry and family, we have followed every Caring Bridge posting of Emma’s successes with joy, and her setbacks with fear and concern. Now we share with you the empty space that is always left by the loss of someone very special. We hope that you can take some measure of comfort in knowing that you have raised an Angel. We know the memories of Emma’s indomitable spirit, her touch, her laugh, her smile, and her favorite things will forever be with all who knew her. And you her family have earned the deep respect and admiration of all who know you. Your courage, dedication and tireless efforts have been a true inspiration. With love, and prayers for your well being, and a desire to support you in any way we can we wish you well. Elden & Barbara.

I read about beautiful Emma and her brave battle against osteosarcoma. Even though her life was cut short by a ruthless form of cancer, I believe her spirit and will to live make her life an inspiration to all of us. Her courageous fight to be herself and live life her way speaks volumes about her resilience in the face of illness. She will always be remembered for this in the hearts of many. I grieve also for the loss of a grandson, Mattie, at age seven, from osteosarcoma, in September 2009. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers,

You were my little sunshine girl, always a ready smile on your face! I shall forever remember the good time we spent together when I visited during the summer of 2009. My heart is broken but I know you are now free from suffering. You were lent to us for such a short period but your life has made such an impact on all who knew you. You were given the most wonderful parents any child could wish for and even though they must be grieving, I am certain they are at peace knowing you are safe for all eternity. Why you had to say goodbye so soon we shall never understand, but God knows what He is doing and He will comfort your loved ones who had to stay behind. It was good to know you sweetheart, you shall be remembered always as such a brave little warrior who accepted all the hardship that came your way without complaint, an example to all of us. Till we meet again.....
Henry, Lauren and Jeremy, be brave, you did everything humanly possible to help her. May God go with you and keep you safe.

Dear Lauren, Henry and Jeremy, I had no idea what an active, lively girl Emma was. I only met her briefly in San Diego. She became more alive to me since seeing her smiling face on the photo album cover at the Stewart reunion during the Rock and Roll marathon. I've prayed for you more since then, and have been humbled by your willingness to take the time to write and encourage us this past month as we now watch my son battle the same disease. You are an amazing family. We continue to pray for you and have asked our circle of friends to include you in their prayers as well. Emma will never be forgotten. Praise God that we know she is at peace with Him, and we will see her again. Much love, Lee

We had such a short time with Little Miss Emma, yet her impact on us will be forever remembered. She was part of a class of 6 preschoolers who were getting ready for their kindergarten experience when she was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago. She came to our classroom mid-year from East Olympia Elementary preschool and Teacher Julie and she had spent the entire previous year with Teacher Helen at Peter G. Schmidt. So you know that the Tumwater Preschool Program is feeling her loss.
Emma particularly enjoyed the Eric Carle book Brown Bear Brown Bear which was also on a children's music cd. She could spend much of her time sitting and looking through that book with the music playing. We would set it to loop, playing the song over and over. She just loved it!
We can only imagine how very much you are hurting right now. You waged the most valiant war against her disease. You have been the most wonderful parents--and little brother--Emma could ever have. Your resolve and determination were an inspiration to us all.
Please know that while we lift Emma up at this time, we also lift those who loved her so much.

Our hearts are grieved by the loss of such a beautiful child. We will always be touched by the memory of little Emma and her courageous battle and your family's love and dedication to her, not just during her long battle with cancer, but always. Your description of your precious little girl is so telling of her very nature. The seasons of the year will remind us of her silent gracefulness, beauty and love of movement. The gentle rain and green shoots of new life in Spring; the carefree floating of the butterflies of Summer; the vibrant splash of color even as the leaves of Autumn fall to the ground; the transforming crystals of Winter snowflakes blanketing the earth. We will hold these memories in our hearts and say a prayer for you and your family as you mourn for her and miss her always. We pray the pain will be eased by the God of all comfort, and be assured you will be reunited with your precious investment who awaits you in Heaven. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this long journey and very personal family heartache. She will be remembered. God be with you all. We love you.
