Obituary of Hazel Kagy

Hazel Eileen Kagy died peacefully November 11, 2008 at Panorama City in Lacey, Washington. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lloyd Kagy of Olympia, Washington.She was born November 5, 1920 in Puyallup, Washington, daughter of Charles and Fern Phillips. She graduated Cum Laude from Washington State College in 1940 with a major in music. She and her husband, Bob Kagy, moved to Eugene, Oregon and then to Medford, Oregon, where they raised their three children. Hazel was very active in the community, working with the Girl Scouts and the various schools her children attended. She was one of the founding members of the Peter Britt Music Festival in Jacksonville, Oregon, as well as a longtime board member and fundraiser for the Rogue Valley Symphony. She and her husband owned and operated a Hertz Car Rental Agency at the Medford Airport. After her husband’s death, Hazel became one of only five women Hertz owners in the United States. After selling the Hertz Agency, she embarked on a twenty year boating adventure, traveling to North and Central America, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and the rivers and canals of Europe. Hazel is survived by her three children- Susan Wachtler, Robert Kagy, and Carol Kagy, and five grandchildren- Megan Wachtler, Levin Kagy, Rosyln Kagy, Carl Kagy, and Julianne Kagy. Hazel lived her life to the fullest and was an example to other people how to do the same. A woman of strength, wisdom and humor, Hazel will be missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
