Obituary of Jane Johnson

Jane Livingston Grimes Johnson Jane passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and caregivers on Saturday, February 25, 2012. She is now at peace and with Our Heavenly Father. Jane was born on March 3, 1916 on the Livingston farm in Pasco, Washington. She was the youngest of three children born to Sidney Claude and Ruth Corbett Van Slyke Livingston. She graduated from Pasco High School in 1934 and attended Washington State College where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Jane married Lawrence A. Grimes on October 28, 1939 in Pasco, Washington. Jane and Larry had two daughters, Patricia and Ruth, and shared 33 wonderful years of marriage until his death on April 12, 1972. On July 21, 1979 Jane married Arthur C. Johnson in Wenatchee, Washington. They enjoyed 18 happy years together until his death on December 6, 1997. Jane’s greatest joy was her family and many close friends. She loved watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their various activities. And, of course, WSU basketball and football games! She was a thoughtful, caring lady and always opened her heart and home to the people she loved. Even in her later years, she received cards and letters from friends on a regular basis. She was a very active, devoted member of the Methodist Church during her adult life and her faith was very important. She was definitely an inspiration and positive role model for many people throughout her life. Jane enjoyed travelling, gardening, and entertaining – as often as possible. She was also an active community member. Some of her activities included the Kelso School Board, P.E.O., Salvation Army Friendship Center, Franklin County Historical Society, and founding member of the Village at Canyon Lakes. Jane is survived by her daughters Patricia (Dennis) Phelps of San Jose, CA and Ruth Weigelt of Olympia, WA; stepchildren Artagene (Jack) Hughes of Connell, WA, Orman (Mardi) Johnson of Connell, WA, Buena (Bruce) Bowen of Connell, WA, and Gavin Johnson of Connell, WA; niece Carol Roos, Yakima, WA; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In 2007 Jane moved to Olympia, WA to be close to family. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the owners and caregivers at Hawthorne Place for taking great, loving care of Jane in her last years. In lieu of flowers, Jane and the family request donations be made to Kennewick First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Foundation, or charity of your choice. Please sign the guestbook below.
