Winifred Jager

Obituary of Winifred Jager

Winifred Jager Winifred Claire (Simpson) Jager, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully at home on May 2, 2012, her 86th birthday. Known affectionately as "Winnie" to the Olympia community, she and her husband of 62 years, Steve, relocated from Rhode Island in 1985, embracing the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Winnie is survived by three daughters, Susan Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA, Judy (Marc) Pierce of Thousand Oaks, CA, Gretchen (David) Gacetta of Olympia, WA; six grandchildren, Jon Oden of Orlando, FL, Heather Oden of Portland, OR, Ted Mulcahey, of Vancouver, WA, Julie Houser of Redmond, WA, Michael Gacetta of New York, NY, Molly Gacetta of Chicago, IL; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Simpson of Neshanic, NJ, and David Simpson of Pawtucket, RI. A World War II bride, Winnie’s lifelong “career” was as wife and mother. Her legacy of gourmet cooking earned her the reputation of “Julia.” Her giving spirit defined her very essence and touched all who knew her from Starbucks, to TOP Foods, to any stranger who encountered her. The family is gathered in private celebration of Winnie’s robust life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
