Obituary of Idyllis Humphrey

Idyllis Humphrey Idyllis (Del) Louise (LaCoy) Humphrey, 52, passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure on April 14, 2009, at Providence St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, WA. She was surrounded by close friends and family members at her bedside all day, including her special dog, Jasper. Del was born on March 22, 1957 in Colorado Springs, CO. to Ronald E. LaCoy and Arvida (Pearsen) LaCoy. She moved to the Olympia area in 1966 and graduated from Olympia High School in 1975. Del married James M. Humphrey in the winter of 1979. She was a loving mom and wonderful homemaker. She was a consultant for Friendly Home Toy Parties and enjoyed the flexibility and freedom it gave her to devote quality time to her kids. She had a passion for animals, big and small, wild and domestic: she even maintained her own menagerie. In addition to working as a veterinary assistant, Del spent countless hours volunteering for Concern for Animals and the Olympic Wildlife Refuge. Someone once said that she would have been happy simply living with the wildlife. Del was a kind, loving, and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Among the many friends and extended family members who will deeply miss her are her longtime close friends, Ellen Reber and Dee Long. Many others also considered Del to be their mom, notably Devin Hicks. She joins her mother, Arvida (Pearsen) LaCoy, in death and is survived by her loving father, Ronald E. LaCoy (Sault Ste. Marie, MI); her sister, Rhonda Cruz (MD); her beloved daughters, Fern Humphrey (Lacey, WA) and Emily Chacon (Lacey, WA); her beloved son, Logan Humphrey (Aberdeen, WA); her two beloved sons-in-law, Nathaniel Ranken (Lacey, WA) and Saul Chacon (Lacey, WA); and her grandchildren, Shaynna, Makailah, Hayden, Maleah, Nataliah, and Elijah. In lieu of flowers or cards, those who wish may make a memorial donation in any amount to the cause Del was so passionate about: Concern for Animals.
