Obituary of Russel Hollinghead

Russel Hollingshead, 82, a 35 year resident of Yelm, passed away at his home on August 30, 2009. Russel was born February 20, 1927 in Catawba, Wisconsin to Nels and Vinnie Hollingshead. Russel married Alice Cook in Cordsberg, New Mexico on October 6, 1950. He served his country by enlisting in the US Navy from which he was Honorably Discharged in 1953. Russel also worked as a Dairy Farmer off and on over the years, worked as a Merchant Marine in the late 1950’s and 60’s, and more recently worked for the Washington State Ferry System until 1972. Many wells in the early days were ‘witched’ by Russ, with whatever branch was close by. He could tell you where and how deep and was rarely wrong.Russ was also known as quite a horseman, and his girls recall they always had horses. He also enjoyed family outings to his favorite camping and fishing spots. Surviving Russ are his wife Alice; daughters Annette (Chris) Clark, Yelm and Peggy Noble, Seattle; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lyle and Dean; sisters, Edith, Pauline (Mick), Tillie and Betty. Friends and Family will Celebrate his life on Saturday, September 19, 2009 beginning at 1:30pm at The River at Ken and Lill Reichel’s located on Neat Road between Fennell Road and Lawrence Lake Road in the Bald Hills. A potluck will follow the service. Please bring your own folding chairs. For GPS info, use 20030 Neat Road SE, Yelm. The Service will be exactly one mile before that.
