Obituary of Paul Lucian Hillier

None Paul Lucian Hillier, 52 years of age, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2006. He was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1953 and raised in Olympia, attending St. Michael's Grade School and graduating from St. Martin's High School in 1972. He briefly attended St. Martin's College; however, his passion took him to the hotel/restaurant business. He began his long hospitality career at the Tyee in Olympia and Falls Terrace Restaurant also in Olympia. In 1974 he took an opportunity to work with the Red Lion Hotel chain and successfully managed property for them in Oregon and California. In 1978 he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to pursue, own, and manage his own restaurant facility. From 1978 until 1994 he owned and managed several restaurants and hotels in the Minneapolis area and in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1995, he moved back to Western Washington and was in various sales positions until illness forced his retirement. He had a passion for service to people and a love for reading, cooking, piano, art, and especially his family. He is survived by his daughter Morgan (and her mother Joan) Hillier of Chehalis, Washington; his mother Dorothy Hillier of Olympia; his sisters Maureen (Joe) Spacciante of Centralia, Colleen (Sam) Tollefson of Olympia, and Mary (Pat) Zielinski of Olympia; and his brothers Steve (Melinda) Hillier of Salem, Oregon, Bill (Carol) of Chehalis, John (Sue) of Spokane, and Jim Hillier of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 28, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1021 Boundary St. SE, Olympia with inurnment immediately following. Donations may be given to St. Martin's Abbey or Sisters of the Holy Names, 2911 West Fort George Wright Drive, Spokane, Washington.
