Faye M. Henderson Faye Henderson, 98, died December 22, 2008 in Olympia. She was born on November 21, 1910 in Elberton, to Louella and John Henderson. Faye received a Bachelor of Science degree from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, did graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley and received a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. She moved to Olympia in 1943 and worked in various phases of public social welfare until her retirement in 1974. As Director of Family and Children's Services for the Department of Social and Health Services, Faye was instrumental in the development and passage of Washington's first child protective services and day care licensing laws. After retirement, Faye remained active in the social welfare arena as a board member of United Way of Thurston County and as a member of its allocations committee. She was also active in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A memorial service for Faye Henderson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at First Christian Church, 7th and Franklin, Olympia.
