Obituary of Theodore Hedges

No visitation Theodore “Ted” Hedges, 87, a life-long resident of Thurston County, died at his Tumwater home on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Mr. Hedges was born December 5, 1919 in Indianola, Nebraska to Clarkson and Minette (McCool) Hedges. Ted was a 1938 graduate of Olympia High School. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1940 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater including New Guinea and the Philippines. On November 12, 1946 he married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Dodge, who survives. Ted had several occupations over his lifetime including beef rancher, truck driver for Creamery Transport, a Christmas tree farmer and an employee for Western Washington Welding. Ted was known for his service and friendship to family, neighbors, and the community. He was a member of the Littlerock Methodist Church, the National Shorthorn Association (beef rancher organization), the 248th Coast Artillery Association and South Union Grange (fifty+ year continuous member). His also served as a Chambers Prairie 4-H Leader and as a director on the Littlerock School Board. Ted collected power line insulators and was an avid sports fan – following all teams from Washington. Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Jerris (Susan) Hedges, Lake Oswego, Oregon; a daughter, Sally (Gilberto) Hedges-Blanquez, Seattle; and five grandchildren, Andrew Hedges, Emily Hedges, William Hedges-Blanquez, Aaron Hedges and Bryan Hedges. One son, Michael Hedges preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Littlerock United Methodist Church, 6336 128th Ave. SW, Littlerock, WA 98556. Memorial donations may be made in Ted’s name to the Littlerock United Methodist Church at the same address.
