Obituary of James Bernard Harkness

Viewing will begin at 8:30 AM prior to the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church JAMES “JIM” HARKNESS James Bernard “Jim” Harkness, 49, of Lacey, Washington, died Saturday, February 17, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Jim was born April 23, 1957 in Bitburg, Germany to Samuel and Hendrika (Heemskerk) Harkness. He joined the Army and served in Germany. Following his discharge, Jim worked as photogramatist (map maker) from 1978 to 1998. He traveled with his career extensively, working in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Riverside and Saudi Arabia. Jim enjoyed golf, football, skiing, history, computer programming and playing the harmonica. He loved to travel in Europe, especially Holland and Germany. Survivors include his parents, Sam and Henny Harkness; brother Tony Harkness; sister, Annette Hancock and brother-in-law Joe Hancock; also very close friends Tom and Erma Dressel; also friends in Sheboygan, Phoenix, Riverside and Olympia; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
