Obituary of Ellen Hanvey

Ellen Florence (Vreeland) Hanvey Ellen was born December 22, 1921 to Grace Laura (Gee) and Walter Edward Vreeland in Everett, WA. She died at age 90 on June 16, 2012 in Olympia, WA. She lived in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle over 60 years. Her survivors are her daughter Kay Hanvey (Olympia); her Stepson, Forest Robert Hanvey, Jr. and his wife Sylvia (Virginia), his children and grandchildren; sister-in-Law Dorothy (Galligan) Oddson (Mt. Vernon), many nieces and nephews, their families, extended family, and many, many friends. Her husband of over 50 years Forest Robert Hanvey, Sr. and daughter Jean Ellen (Hanvey) Lafferty, passed previously. She worked in Food Services for the Seattle Public Schools for over 26 years prior to retirement. Her passions were family, food, flowers, traveling and faith. Her hobbies were spoons and crafts—particularly Japanese Bunka embroidery and tatting. She strongly believed in education and in her 60’s returned to college and earned her AA Degree from Shoreline Community College. Remembrance donations can be made in Ellen’s honor to Shoreline Community College.
