Obituary of Carl Hanson

Friends may pay their respects beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service at the Church. Carl "Dean" Hanson Carl Dean Hanson was born March 25, 1927 in Wellington, Utah to Moroni and Flossie Hanson. He was the last survivor of their nine children. He passed away July 29, 2008 at home with his loving family around him. Dean joined the Navy at 17 and served as a radio man in the Pacific Theater. While on leave in Salt Lake City, he met and later married Ferris Elaine Bates, they lived there for several years. As manager of S.H. Kress & Co., he was later transferred to Colorado, California, Utah and Idaho. He owned and operated the Rasco five & dime store in downtown Olympia for 5 years. He then honed his entrepreneurial skills by going into building and development, starting Olympus Realty and later franchising into Century 21. He built hundreds of homes in Thurston and Pierce counties and was active in the business until his death. He lived in the Olympia & Lacey area for 43 years. Dean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served two Stake missions. He enjoyed singing with the choir and in quartets. He loved going to the ocean and digging clams and also enjoyed riding his quad-runners at the ORV park and Oregon dunes. Dean is survived by Elaine, his much loved wife of 60 years; their five children, son Carl and wife Jane, daughter Lynn and husband Joel, son Scott and wife Cheryl, son John and wife Jennifer, and son Chris.
