Obituary of Gertrude Louise Hamilton

Novisitation Gertrude Louise Hawley Hamilton March 10, 1921- October 21, 2007 Gertrude was born March 10, 1921, the second of five children to Charles Hawley, an accountant for the BIA, and Imelda Morigieau Hawley, a homemaker. She was raised in the beautiful Flathead Lake area of Dixon, Montana near Glacier National Park. When she was a young woman, her parents relocated to Spokane, Washington. Not long after, she met her husband-to-be, Roy M. Hamilton, a rancher and rodeo man, whose family had homesteaded the gorgeous Judith Gap area near Big Sandy, Montana. They married on June 8th 1940 and raised their 5 children in Spokane. Roy worked for 25 years as a police officer and later as a detective for Spokane Police Department. Gertrude worked as an LPN for Sacred Heart and later Holy Family for over 20 years. They had 31 long and wild years together until Roy passed away on July 13 1971. Gertrude never remarried, but she did have a longtime companion, retired Air Force officer, Peter J. Grant. The two traveled extensively over the next 20 years, eventually moving to Longview and then to Olympia. Some of the highlights of her life include a surprise flight on the Concorde, a cherished trip to Tahiti, her many children, grandchildren and a love of adventure, truly living up to her nickname ‘G-O, GO.’ The family would like to express their thanks to all those that loved and supported her as they did. A memorial service is planned for June 8th 2008 in Spokane. Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Association www.alz.org or to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org/
