Obituary of Dorcas Hamill

Dorcas Hamill Dorcas May Hamill passed away peacefully on January 2nd, 2012, in Longview, WA, at the age of 88. She was born on January 16th, 1923, in Camden, WA, to Frank and Mae Hogle. Dorcas grew up with her two sisters and one brother in the depression with her family picking hops to make ends meet. While picking hops in Moxee city, her father went to Wenatchee for supplies. Frank died in jail that night. The family was left alone to fend for themselves. Her mother met and married Ted Cole, a bridge builder and construction worker in Spokane. Ted would take care of and raise the family from then on. Dorcas met and married Jack L Hamill in 1941. They raised three children, Jack Jr, Janet, and Jim. They moved to Seattle after the war, and settled there until 1968, when they moved to Olympia. Dorcas worked at Saint Martin’s College and Washington State Support Enforcement until her retirement. Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2002, her parents and step father, Ted Cole, two sisters, June and Goldie, and brother Charles.
