John "Jack" Fordney Hackstadt
John "Jack" Fordney Hackstadt, 88, passed away on July 29, 2009 in Olympia, Washington of a stroke and complications from diabetes.
Born May 7, 1921 in Saginaw, Michigan, he attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He joined the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of World War II, then returned to Saginaw to raise his family. After retiring, he moved to Olympia, Washington where he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his brothers and friends, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Married to Carolyne Meyer in 1945, she predeceased him, and he married Nancy Byrnes Lafleur in 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; daughters, Barbara Crossland of Olympia, Amy and Jim Richardson of Shelton, Washington, Mary and Frank Lindsey of Griffin, Georgia, and Paula and Aaron March of Roswell, Georgia; his brother Tom Hackstadt of Olympia; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers, Paul and David, and by his granddaughter, Tammy. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed. A truly compassionate man, he made this world a better place for those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA on October 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
