When I first moved into this area in the early 70s Bob invited me into to his home and introduced me to his wife, his sons and daughters which I got to know real well. He accepted me and my own and treated us as family.
To me, Bob had a quirky sense of humor that, from goofing on someone’s opinions or beliefs, playfully doubting, playing with their heads, he questioned and tested that person’s resolve. To this day it still makes me smile, and, for better or worse, I found that, over time I had adopted this same attribute.
Early on as Diane and I interacted with him and his family, we saw and felt his love and devotion for his wife and kids. Since then, I have carried and emulated that wonderful example he set with my own family. Over the years as I continued to bump into his kids and their kids that remained here on our community, I knew that he had to be proud of his progeny. I’m gonna miss that guy.

I met Bob Gum when I went to work at PayNsave. He became a very good friend to a lot of us, and also to my family. he had a great persnality, and was always ready to listen when we needed someone to talk to. He always talked about his family with great love and pride. My husband and Bob were in CB radios together, and my son denny and Bob worked together on cars. They both thought a lot of Bob.After Bob and Jeanette moved away, we were always going to go see them, however working all the time, just put it off. The beginning of this week Denny And I went by North street grocery, and Denny said we need to go see Jeanette and Bob,and try to find where they live. I had a phone call this morning just before leaving for work, that Bob had passed away. I feel so bad, I guess this is what happens when we have people we love and want to go see, but always think " tomorrow" as we are always too busy working. Bob will be greatly missed, my sympathy and prayers go out to Jeanette and family.

I’d like to offer my condolences to the family of my friend “Robert Gum” I would have liked to have attended the service, but I just got out of the hospital myself and am unable to make the service.
When I heard about the passing of my friend, my heart just broke. Robert played a huge roll within my life and the lives of many along his journey. I shall cherish the many times we spent together working on cars out of his garage in Olympia, as well as the many wonderful conversations we shared as friends.
My friend had a heart full of compassion and understanding for everyone that came his way and his advice always came deep from within his heart.
I shall miss my friend, and will forever cherish each and every memory he placed within my heart.
May God Bless and provide comfort unto each of us within this time of passing. Our friend may no longer be with us in the mortal sense, but will always reside with each of us “Spiritually”
Sincerely;
Dennis M. Rivers

We were sorry to hear of Bob's death. I enjoyed working with Bob at Bailey's Lacey Drug will remember our trips to Portland to do our seasonal buying. Bob was a hard worker and was especially good at doing the advertising.
I talked to Bob Bailey in Seattle and he would have been at the funeral, but was leaving for a toy show in Germany. He sends his condolances.
We are sorry for your loss and will be with you on Saturday.
