Linda Groulx

Obituary of Linda Groulx

She was born on August 7, 1951 in Montreal Quebec to her French-speaking father, Maurice and her English-speaking mother, Winnifred. Most of her childhood was spent growing up in Quebec. Shortly after finishing secretarial college Linda moved to British Columbia where her love of the theatre first blossomed. Several years later she moved to Ontario and worked for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Her love of family brought her back to Montreal where she started working for Bell Canada in the capacity of computer systems analyst. This kept her busy for a few years until the adventurer in her took her to visit the Dominican Republic in 1985. This island in the Caribbean became her home for the next ten years. While living there, Linda became trained in massage therapy, discovering yet another gift. Shortly thereafter, she opened up a successful spa and massage center and trained young local people in the art. Her beloved son, Zachary, was born in 1988 in Puerto Rico and spent his younger years in Puerto Plata. In 1996 Linda moved to Yelm, Washington. Immediately she became involved in the Drew Harvey Theatre as an actress, a costume creator and a makeup artist. She also served on the Board of Directors for a few years. During this time she touched many peoples lives (both young and old) and was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand or a listening ear. In 1999 she began working as a software tester and for the last two years she has worked for the State Department of Finance. Besides her love of the arts, she was often found tending to her wonderful gardens. Linda is survived by her son, Zachary; her step-daughter, Rowan, (of Fairbanks); her mother, Winnie (of Montreal); her brothers, Richard (of Frnace), Norman (of Montreal), Brian (of Calgary); and dear sister, Micheline (of Montreal). Her beloved father, Maurice, preceded her in death. She will be missed by many people that loved her dearly. A memorial gathering to commemorate her life and her works will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church hall on 3rd Avenue in Yelm on Saturday, January 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1551 Broadway Ste 200, Tacoma WA 98402-3332.
