Obituary of Roy Lee Grindrod

Roy Lee Grindrod 1940 - 2004Surely Jesus loves fishermen For He chose them for His own, To be with Him and learn from Him And someday share His home. It must have been their trust in God And patience he found rare, That keeps them very near His heart and ever in His care Anne Kujawa Roy Grindrod, a resident of Olympia, Washington, passed away September 19, 2004 in the loving care of his family at St Peter’s Hospital. He was born in Burley, Idaho on February 13, 1940. Roy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed making gifts for family and friends in his woodshop. He worked for more than 30 years as sheet metal mechanic in Washington, Idaho, Alaska and Montana. Roy was hero in the truest sense of the word. At the age of eight, he drove his father, brother and a family friend through the desert to a hospital in Burley Idaho after they were blinded in a well drilling accident. At the age of 60, he foiled an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Idaho Falls, Idaho. More importantly, he was a hero to his family every day. He gave them a love of nature and the outdoors, traveling to new places, and eating great food. He married Sandra Leslie Butler on December 22, 1956. They had a great life adventure together for 47 years and had four children, Leslie Kim, Carla Susanne, Kevin Roy, and Eric Lee. Roy is survived by his wife, Sandra; four children; one daughter-in-law, Mary; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his sister, Patty Lou Reed. His parents, Lois Roy Grindrod and Isabella Baugh Grindrod and brother Kenneth Ray Grindrod, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 27, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the Relief Society Room, Lacey 4th Ward, 9341 4th Ave. NE, Lacey, Washington.
