Enid Grabill

Obituary of Enid Grabill

Enid Kay Grabill Enid passed away peacefully at home in Lacey, Washington, on January 1, 2011, at the age of 87. She was born October 15, 1923, in Raymond, WA, to Julius and Kathryn Laspa. A graduate of Olympia High School, Enid lived most of her life in the area. She married CMSgt. Thomas Edward Grabill, USAF, and they were blessed with a very large, close, loving family. Enid loved her family more than anything else in the world. Her family was her pride and joy! Enid was very active with the youth her whole life. She began working with Sunday School at her church, then on to the Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader, and Cub Scouts as a Den Mother. She then grew to work with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls within the Masonic order. Her accomplishments within the Masonic Order were numerous: she was a Grand Deputy, Mother Advisor, board chairman for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, a Grand Cross of Color recipient, and an advisor for the girls. She also accomplished life member status of Eastern Star, and was a Past Matron twice of Olympia 36 chapter Order of Eastern Star. Enid worked as a Legal Secretary for the State of Washington Department of Utilities and Transportation Commission. Her work history also included United Airlines and the Olympia Armory (during WWII), as well as Reliable Welding Works and a Chevrolet dealership. After retiring from the State in 1986, Enid volunteered as much as she could. She worked as a volunteer for the Lacey Fire Department and for the Lacey Senior Center. As an active, avid supporter of our men and women who serve our country, she also knitted hundreds of slipper socks, which are sent for our troops overseas. Enid is survived by her sons, Steven Grabill and Brad Grabill; daughter, Janet K. Reed and son-in-law Gerald D. Reed, Jr.; two step-grand children, Christi Moser and Mark Moser; step-great grand children, Braxton Hood and Mason Hood; nephews, Jude Laspa and Tevis Laspa; neice, Kathy Krieger; their children and their children’s children. Enid was preceded in death by her husband Thomas; brother Peyton Laspa; mother and father; and niece, Susan Laspa Schuller. The family will be celebrating Enid’s life Saturday January 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at The First Methodist Church of Olympia, located at 1224 Legion Way SE in Olympia, with a celebration get together from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. at South Union Grange in Tumwater. The family would like to thank the aides from Maxim Home Health Agency in Lacey who cared for her at home for the last year and a half: Kristi Southerland, main day aide; and Karla McGuire, main night shift aide. Thank-you to all of you that cared for her, including the hospice staff that came on board the day she died. You were all terrific! “Ms. Enid,” as her aides called her, was a very accomplished and much loved lady. She will be greatly missed.
