Obituary of Marie A. Gillis

No visitation Marie A. Gillis, 63, a 59 year resident of Olympia, died of cancer on Monday, February 19, 2007 at her son’s home. Marie was born August 4, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Maxine (Wright) Samlock. Her family moved to Olympia in 1947. She was a 1961 graduate of North Thurston High School. During her 20’s, Marie worked as a nurses aide. On May 21, 1971 in Tacoma, Marie married Alfred James Gillis. Al died on April 24, 1995. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, puzzles, watching sports, and visiting with her family and friends, especially her best friend, Edna. She was baptized Catholic on November 19, 1963. Marie was an extremely kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Marie is survived by her son, Frank (Jeana); daughter, Charlene; her aunt, Lois; and grandson, Kyle, all of Olympia. A private service will be held at a later date.
