James Gerrish

Obituary of James Carroll Gerrish

After a brave battle with cancer and surrounded by his family, James Carroll Gerrish went home to be with his Lord on February 12, 2009. Born May 7, 1933 in Mount Vernon, Washington, Jim was the only child of Alma and Carroll Gerrish. Jim attended Washington State University, where he met his bride of 52 years, Beulah Stainer. Jim and Beulah made their first home together in Germany, where Jim served in the Army for 2 years. They later settled back in Seattle, where they raised their three children, Sheryl, Brian and Susan. Jim worked as a chemist for Darigold for 18 years and then later pursued his passion of financial planning while also driving a school bus for Laidlaw in the Seattle area. Jim enjoyed playing black jack, traveling, and fishing, but most of all he enjoyed his family and was a devoted father and grandpa. Jim was a long time member of Fremont Baptist Church and a 53 year member of the Masonic Order. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father and is survived by his wife Beulah; son Brian Gerrish, Yelm, WA; daughters, Sheryl McLaren, Tacoma, WA and Susan Peterson, Winthrop, WA; four grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Helma Stainer. They all love and miss him. There will not be a formal memorial service. Memorial donations may be sent to Fremont Baptist Church, 717 North 36th, Seattle, WA 98103 in memory of James Gerrish.
