Obituary of Luise Geer

Luise Geer Luise Mekkes Johnson Geer, a lifelong resident of Olympia, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at home surrounded by members of her loving family. Luise was born in Olympia on August 6, 1916 to John and Antje Mekkes. She was proceeded in death by parents, John and Antje, her first husband Olaf Johnson, daughter Linda Bump, sisters Wy Parker, Marie Sulenes, Margaret Harter, and brothers Johnny and Jerry Mekkes. After graduating from Olympia High School in 1934, Luise attended secretarial school in Tacoma and returned to Olympia and married Olaf Johnson on June 8, 1940. Luise was a homemaker and was a mother of two beautiful daughters. Olaf passed away in July, 1948. Luise was employed by the State of Washington, where she was secretary to the chief of the Opinions Division in the Attorney General’s office and she retired in 1977. Luise was an avid bowler and was Olympia City Champ in the 1950s. Luise also had a “green thumb” when it came to growing her beautiful roses. Luise loved the ocean beaches and loved to clam dig as well as spend time at Black Lake, where she loved to swim as a child. Luise always considered herself fortunate that she got to do a lot of traveling over the years visiting not only her family in the United States but also traveling to many other parts of the world. Luise is survived by her husband of 20 years, Neal A. Geer, daughter Carol Dennis, sons-in-law Arthur Dennis and Larry Bump; and granddaughters Tina Irmakesen and husband Wantay, Terry Gilbert and husband Joe, Tricia Davis and husband Stan, Christine Freeburg and husband Bob, Lisa Emery and husband Adam. Luise also leaves ten great-grandchildren, Madison and Kennedy Gilbert, Paige and Parker Freeburg, Jake and Sawyer Davis, Coy, Caden and Cal Emery and Maralinda Irmakesen. Luise is also survived by several loving nephews and nieces and their families. “Auntie Lu” and “GG” will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date.
