Obituary of Henry Gallanger

Henry Gallanger Henry Gallanger was born January 13, 1932, in Leese, WA. Henry (more affectionately known as King Henry) passed away Thursday evening February 3, 2011, in Centralia, WA, with his wife of 33 years, Helaine, and many family members at his side. He graduated from Friday Harbor High School "Class of 1951" and then joined the Navy where he served until he was medically discharged. Henry is a 4th generation of San Juan Island pioneers: his great-grandfather was Peter Lawson, grandfather Alfred Lawson, and mother Marguerite Lawson Gallanger. He was extremely proud of his heritage, his Navy service, his 1951 classmates and their gatherings, and his love for his family. Henry was father to three sons, Michael, Patrick and Larry from his first marriage to Josie L. Pauley. Michael preceded his father in death in 1986. Henry married Helaine Hammond Cary on June 25, 1978, in Chehalis. They owned and worked together at Forest Manor Retirement Home until they sold in 1989. Prior employment was at Bremerton Shipyard; he held a CDL license for all his truck driving skills. It needs to be mentioned that he worked with Jim Hartstrom (now deceased) in the ground breaking and earth hauling on the construction of Ike Kinswa State Park. Henry is survived by his wife, Helaine; sons, Patrick and Larry (Gail) Gallanger; three step-children, Lynn Cary, David Cary and Lisa (Phil) Davis; brothers, Kendall and Noel (Lois); sisters, Gloria, Phyllis and Janice. There are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and Charles and Lane Guin who he raised as his own. Preceding him in death was his father Earl, mother Marguerite, brother Allan and son Michael. Life's enjoyments were hunting, fishing and traveling, especially to his Navy Ship Reunions.
