Obituary of Sally Ann Foy

Sally Ann Foy Born: December 13, 1926 Passed Away: December 24, 2005 Our beautiful redhead with great zest for life and a wry sense of humor lost her 9 year battle with breast cancer Christmas Eve after a peaceful night of sleep. Mom was the brightest light in our lives and she will remain in our hearts forever. Those who knew mom enjoyed her spunky attitude and graciousness. You always knew where you stood with her, no doubt about it! She was very unassuming, extremely private as well as fun loving and generous. Mom had a great sense of style, looking good no matter the situation even in her garden she so dearly loved. Mom had little niches’ of friends we have only begun to know about: her church guild friends since 1953, her knitting friends, the gardening friends and her dog friends she made while walking “Abbey” Whippet, “Carmen” Chihuahua and “Pete” her dachshund. Mom was raised in Bellingham by Adrian and Gertrude Yorkston, good Irish-Scotch folks who instilled values of hard work and equally hard play. She attended Forest Ridge School and then the U of W where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. While there, she met and fell in love with Jack Martin and together they had four children: Jack, Dan, Sue and Mary. Jack and Sally divorced years later and mom married Gordon (Snap) Foy in 1968. Together they enjoyed entertaining their friends at Sunset Beach where mom raised Banty chickens she tamed. Mom had the cutest chicken “coop” in town back then. After Snap passed in 1977, mom moved back into town and began to deliver Meals on Wheels for years, as well has helping in local schools and the food bank. Mom was a founding member of the St. Agatha Guild (1953) and a member of the Dana Egbert Orthopedic Guild. Mom conquered her fear of flying (well, kind of pretty well) and was able to take numerous trips to Europe and Russia. She liked to travel and took cruises to Mexico, Alaska and New England. When home, mom was an avid knitter and all of us, including some babies around town, cherish sweaters made just for us that are unique and so special. Mom also was a great cook and she made the best cinnamon rolls in the world. Sally is survived by brother Tom (Pat) Yorkston, Bellingham, Cousins: Zeta (Bob) Parmele San Francisco, Tim (Connie) Aspinall, Medina, Sons: Jack Martin (Colleen Crowley), Seattle, Dan (Georgia Rae) Martin, Olympia Daughters: Susan Martin (Rick Pettitt) Olympia, Mary (Dave) Manners, Genesse, Idaho, four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and eleven nieces and nephews in Bellingham.
