Obituary of Doreen Connolly Fitzgerald

Doreen Connolly Fitzgerald passed away after a short illness on June 24, 2007. She is survived by her son, Dr. Kevin Connolly and his wife Pam; her daughter Karen Connolly; and her daughter Kathleen Fitzgerald and her husband John. Doreen took pride in her grandchildren: Stephen, Michael, David, Maren, Scott, Ian, and Brian. Doreen was born in Liverpool, England in 1923 to William Smith and Margaret Carver Smith. She had two brothers, Arnold and Stanley; and three sisters, Elsie, Edith, and Olwen. She served with distinction in the Royal Air Force during World War II. There she met her first husband, James Henry Connolly. She was widowed in 1950. Doreen immigrated to the United States in 1958 and became an American citizen. She lived for many years in San Leandro, California, where she worked in property management. There she met her second husband, Thomas Fitzgerald. Besides her children and her grandchildren her major love in life was dance. She was an accomplished dancer and teacher of dancing. She toured in England with her family as a dancer and performed for the Royal Air Force. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
