Obituary of Daniel Thomas Field

Daniel Thomas Field Daniel Thomas Field, a 33-year resident of Rochester, Washington, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, WA. Dan was born in Portland, OR, on November 30, 1950, to Dr. J. Edward and Ann Margaret Fields. He was the youngest of four boys. Dan graduated from Wilson High School (1969) in Portland, OR, and attended Linfield College (1969-71) before graduating with a BS Accounting degree from Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR. He was an avid fan of OSU sports, and “Benny the Beaver” adorned the top of his Christmas tree every year. On July 25, 1981, Dan wed Gloria J. Grant and together they raised three sons. Dan loved to explore the outdoors with his family and his favorite memories were of the camping trips to Olallie Lake; deer hunting in the Capitol Forest; duck hunting on the Black River and clam digging on the Long Beach Peninsula. His labs, Ben and Ryder, were his companions on many adventures. He loved bird-watching and taught his sons to recognize many local species. Dan was an accomplished cook and took great pleasure in feeding the boys who would congregate at his home. Dan spent most of his career in one form of agriculture or another, whether it was spreading lime and chemical in the Willamette Valley; processing fish in Anchorage, AK, exporting horses to Japan from Yelm, WA, or marketing dairy and pet supplies at The Farm Store, Chehalis, WA. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, J. Edward and Ann Field; his stepmother, Patricia R. Field; and his father-in-law Albin Lind. He is survived by his wife Gloria and mother-in-law Hattie Lind at the family home in Rochester; sons Ryan (Paula) Grant, Medical Lake, WA; Paul (Melissa) Field, Langley, WA; and Andrew Field, Centralia, WA; granddaughter Kailey Grant; brothers John (Denise) Field, Weiser, ID; James (Patti) Field and Steve (Sylvia) Field, Tacoma, WA, and many nieces and nephews.
